Shawn King Are Photographers really a Threat?

What is it with photographers these days? Are they really all terrorists, or does everyone just think they are? Since 9/11, there has been an increasing war on photography. Photographers have been harrassed, questioned, detained, arrested or worse, and declared to be unwel… Continue

Shawn King TIPA Photography Award Winners Announced: Nikon Goes Away Happy

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has announced to results of the annual camera Oscars. The European awards are coveted by manufacturers, mostly because they get to stick the TIPA logo on the camera box and thereby shift more units. This year, Nikon scooped the Pro and Expert categories with the D3 and D300 respectively. We know that both are good, an… Continue

Grapixeye Digitizing The Past

This year I set myself a challenge. Digitize ALL of my pre-digital age photos! To some this may not seem like much of a challenge but to a pro photographer its overwhelming. All of my pro-shot have been done...working for a magazine has some advantages in this area...they hire people to do this. And let me tell you, thats a lot of photos. My concern now is getting the 2 huge bins of photos and negs to a digital format. I'm sure you all know what I mean. Photo taken at family events, vacations,… Continue

Grapixeye The Perfect Shot vs Post Production

Last week I was a panelist at a Symposium for Profession Photographers (and wanna-be pros) in Seattle. It was a lot of fun. There were a lot of questions during the Q&A but three of them stuck in my mind. !. How do I get the perfect shot in-camera without using Photoshop? 2. How do I get started in Pro Photography? 3. How do I find and handle models? In this post I will handle the first question and address the others in another post. The Perfect Shot vs. Post Production When I sta… Continue

Lesa Snider King Things I learned on my first sunrise photo shoot

Going out for a photo shoot is a rather new experience for Shawn and myself, and this one taught us several things:

1. Only shoot lighthouses in the summer, else you will freeze to fracking death!

2. Monopods are USELESS! In a fit of generosity, I let the husband borrow my new tripod because he was testing Nikon's new D300. Foolishly, I thought the monopod would help me in the…

Shawn King Photowalking - a Better Name/Description?

According to the web site Photowalking.org, "Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things you may find interesting" and they credit Robert Scoble as one of the "creators" - like no one has ever walked and taken photos before Scoble came along.

Let me be the first to say the above definition is *stupid* in the extreme. According to it, I "photowalk" all the time… Continue
