I just heard the YML discussion on the new iMac. I bought one of the first iMacs for my then girlfriend and then last wk bought a 3.06 Ghz model(10 yrs later) to replace my aging G5. I finally figured out that I really did not need the latest tower as currently all I am using the computing horsepower for is Aperture so the big display card is a lot more important than 4 or 8 cores. I also love having a 24 in monitor to go w/ my 20 in second display. The thing is so quiet and bright(i needed to turn down brightness), I am pleased.

Hey, Mark. Last Fall I purchased the first version of the (new) iMac - a 24" beauty with 2.8 Ghz extreme processor - and 4gb of RAM - also to replace my G5 tower. I have found it to be more than adequate for my needs - light photo, video and audio work. And, like you mentioned, it is incredibly quiet and the display is absolutely gorgeous! I love having the all-in-one, and even use the 802.11n wireless to minimize the cords coming out of the back of the computer. As an owner of one for 9 months now, I can say that I am extremely happy with the computer (I've also since upgraded to Leopard). Enjoy! Matt
